# Numverify > Numverify is a real-time phone number validation and lookup REST API covering 232 countries, used to validate numbers at the point of entry, keep user databases clean, qualify leads, cut undelivered SMS, and fight fraudulent sign-ups. A single HTTP GET checks a number against regularly updated international numbering plans and returns lightweight JSON containing whether the number is valid, its local and international formats, the country code, name and dial prefix, the geographic location it is registered to, the carrier operating it, and the line type (mobile, landline, or other). Both international numbers, passed with their dial code, and national numbers, passed with an extra two-letter country code, are supported. Responses support prettyprinted JSON, JSONP callbacks, and Access-Control (CORS) headers, and are secured over 256-bit HTTPS. Numverify is part of the APILayer suite (one account, one API key, one dashboard across the APILayer product family). A free API key is available at https://numverify.com/signup/free/monthly — the Free Plan is a no-time-limit trial with 100 monthly API requests and the full feature set, including real-time validation, carrier and line type detection, country and location detection, and HTTPS, restricted to non-commercial use and without support; paid plans add commercial-use rights, standard support, and higher request volumes rather than extra features. Paid tiers are Basic ($14.99/month, 5,000 requests), Professional ($59.99/month, 50,000 requests), and Enterprise ($129.99/month, 250,000 requests), with a custom plan for higher volumes and up to 15% off on annual billing. To call the API, append your access_key as a query parameter. The base URL is apilayer.net/api. A single validation is one HTTP GET request: apilayer.net/api/validate?access_key=YOUR_KEY&number=14158586273. The main endpoint is Validate (GET /validate), which takes the number parameter in either international format (with the country dial code, e.g. +14158586273) or national format, in which case the two-letter country_code parameter must also be supplied; an optional format parameter set to 1 returns prettified JSON for debugging. The response object contains valid, number, local_format, intl_format, country_code, country_name, country_prefix, location, carrier, and line_type. Usage notifications are sent at 75%, 90%, and 100% of the monthly allowance, after which overage fees apply. Code examples and integration guides are provided for multiple languages. ## Getting Started - [Numverify Homepage](https://numverify.com/): Global phone number validation and lookup API for 232 countries - [API Documentation](https://docs.apilayer.com/numverify/docs/api-documentation): Full reference — the validate endpoint, parameters, response objects, errors, and code examples - [Free API Key Signup](https://numverify.com/signup/free/monthly): Create a free account with 100 monthly requests - [Login](https://numverify.com/login): Access your dashboard, API key, and usage statistics - [Pricing](https://numverify.com/pricing): Free and premium plan tiers with request volumes and features ## Tools - [Integrations](https://numverify.com/integrations): Ready-made connections to third-party platforms and tools - [API Status](https://numverify.com/api-status): Updates on API performance and uptime - [Overage Billing Documentation](https://numverify.com/billing-overages-documentation): How per-request charges apply once a plan's monthly quota is reached ## Resources - [FAQs](https://numverify.com/faq): Common questions on validation accuracy, numbering plans, carrier data, plans, and payment - [API Glossary](https://numverify.com/api-glossary): Definitions of common telephony and API terms - [APILayer Blog](https://blog.apilayer.com/): Tutorials, use cases, and product updates ## Support - [Contact Us](https://numverify.com/contact): Sales and technical support, including custom and high-volume plan inquiries
